What makes it special:

Time travel! No kidding, walk into 20th St. Cafe, and you'll have no doubt that some of the people sitting at the tables have been coming there since the place opened over 65 years ago. It's a Denver institution. Clippings, certificates, and proclamations adorning the walls chronicle some of the diner's history.

Time travel again! This time, though, I mean the amount of time that passes between when you walk in and when you get your food. It almost doesn't exist. Or, if it does you probably need special equipment to measure it.

Familiarity! If you've ever had a favorite, cozy, greasy spoon, no frills cafe diner, then you will immediately feel at home here.

What's on the menu:
Bagels! Twelve flavors of bagels.  Have one either with cream cheese (they have eight different flavors) or have one as a bagel sandwich with fried egg and gruyere, pepperjack, or cheddar
Breakfast sandwiches - seven different kinds on bagels or facaccia bread, or build your own
Sandwiches - Hot Pastrami, Caprese Panini, Roast Beef, Thai Roast Pork, Roasted Veggie, Italian Sub, Spicy Citrus Tuna and more
Salads - Arugula with Apples, Goat Cheese and Walnuts; House salad with ranch; Greek with Feta, Onions and Olives, Chicken Caesar, Strawberry Chicken with Blue Cheese and Almonds, and more

What makes it special: The breakfast sandwiches on focaccia!  And the freshly baked bagels and breads.

While offering chorizo, bacon, and a beefy chili, Hi Rise has also carved out a niche for itself as one of the few restaurants in Denver catering to vegans with vegan cream cheese for bagels and rotating vegan specials including Gumbo, Sweet Potato and Chickpea soup, and a Portobello Churrasco sandwich.

Ellyngton's at the Brown Palace Hotel

Price: $49, $59, $69 or $117, depending on whether you want champagne and what kind.  Kids 5 and under eat free, and 6-12 is $17.
Champagne: Bottomless, and you get to choose to pay $10, $20, or $68 depending on what kind of bubbles you'd like.

Fruit, scrambled eggs, a pancake with whipped cream and berries, hashbrowns, and a cream cheese blintz.

What makes it special: It's fancy enough to make you feel pleasantly pampered, but not so much that you can't relax and really enjoy yourself. Some guests wear a coat and tie; and others, slacks and t-shirts. (The crowd leans toward being dressier, though.)

Highlights include—

• The service. The Brown Palace always excels in this department. Each and every member of the staff is engaging and quick with a smile and a hello.
• A live jazz trio! ♫ ♫ ♫
• The atmosphere. The wallpaper, the potted bamboo trees, and the ice sculptures make for a very interesting brunch experience.
• A dessert bar to satisfy the most discerning choco-snob.
